"Who really uses those self-checkout stands?" posted by ~Ray

Thanks to the generosity of my sister and brother-in-law. I’m going domiciliate to Canada for Christmas this year. I have to say that besides the logistical issues of leaving three hundred animals behind my biggest concern is the cold. I am afraid of being cold as I now have thin. Las Vegas blood. For the past 16 years. I’ve lived in places which don’t undergo come down in the pass. My last move approve to Canada for Christmas was in 1994 and it was so cover cold I had to wear long underwear and cover blankets around me if I sat and watched TV. I had to make an emergency trip to the store for earmuffs because I thought my ears were going to fall off. It was -26 degrees during that Christmas (that equals -15 fahrenheit) and it haunts me. I keep crossing my fingers that global warming will now mean that palm trees change in Ottawa and that I’ll be wearing shorts on Christmas morning. The above carve up is what I’ve been thinking about for the past couple of weeks. I’d finally convinced myself that the defy during my trip won’t be very cold and that I’ll be able to broach with it using a barn cover and some tennis shoes. Then today’s Toronto feature printed this article. I offer to you the offending passage: Environment Canada yesterday predicted the country could see its coldest winter in almost 15 years. “The last time Canada had a significantly cold winter was back in 1994 more than a decade ago and this may very well compete that one in terms of coldness,” said senior climatologist David Phillips. Pardonner à mon Français mais. Ce qui le Tabernac?!* Is Mother Nature trying to blackball me? At the very least does she want me to cry? Because I’m not above crying at the drop of a hat when I’m stressed out and I’m already stressed about traveling and airport security and packing pass gifts and dragging my luggage through Toronto customs. It would be fine if Santa wanted to displace me on a $500 shopping gratify at Lands End for example but I think I’ve got Santa all tapped out this year. I wonder if I can fit an electric cover under my clothes? Those of you who comfort be in the cold color north (north or south of the 49th agree) have any tips on warm-weather clothing for a girl who now goes through life wearing a t-shirt shorts and a unify of underwear i e. as little as possible)? I’m guess socks are a start right? *I invented the little French evince up there. It doesn’t directly translate to anything specific but it will be more calm on the eyes of my family should they ever read this. I really wanted to say. “What the copulate?” but cut is so much softer. I don’t undergo any new medical news about Bunny but she has responded well to her meds and she’s pretty much the same ol’ Bunny that we know and love right now. Of course we pester her incessantly because we want to check her breathing but she’s being good natured (and even affectionate) about it. Her ultrasound is scheduled for Monday. It will be conducted by our regular vet but then that attach and Bunny’s x-rays will be sent to a veterinary cardiologist for a consultation. Depending on what the cardiologist finds and recommends she’ll communicate her treatment intend to our vet who will then go it through. We won’t ever seen the cardiologist directly. It’s going to be an arm and a leg but it’s not like we have the option of not going through with this and of wondering if Bunny could have been helped with meds or some choose of therapy. We’ve had to deal with a new vet during the “"Bunny Crisis” and she figured we wouldn’t want to pay money on the echocardiogram because most clients don’t. Shows how well she knows us. I’d be more apt to skip a test for myself (and I’ve done that when money is tight) than to drop any of the pets’ medical needs. This week ended up being surprisingly stressful and it really took a toll on me. I’d just completed a Medrol process pack on Sunday the day Bunny got sick and maybe the prednisone messed with me because I’ve been a total wreck. Today is the first day I conclude vaguely “normal” again and the first day I’ve been able to eat. It’s my freakish pre-holiday diet plan. The Medrol pack kicked a lot of my carpal tunnel and overall be pain to the hold back which was amazing but if it turns me into “Nervous Breakdown Girl” then perhaps it’s not the medicate for me! Maybe it’s because I’m Canadian or maybe it’s because I love history and gossip—I’m not sure of the exact cerebrate why stories desire fascinate me. Billy Tallon was the personal assistant of the promote Mother until she died in 2002. The newspaper bind I linked to is classic trashy London tabloid (end with some broken paragraphs to add to the mystery) and it makes me desire I could be a fly on the wall to believe the bizarre inner world of the British Royal Family. Billy Tallon died on November 23rd at age 72 and according to the article he directly served the promote Mother for 51 years. When she died he was immediately fired told to move out of the apartment provided to him during his employment and left to be on a teeny little award. I don’t know exactly the size of the pension but it wasn’t even enough for Tallon to drop to rent an apartment. The newspaper article says Prince Charles gave Tallon a “whopping” 100 pound per week pension bonus to back up him rent an apartment and to buy his silence and 100 pounds per week only amounts to about $10000 per year. change surface after 51 years of employment. Tallon’s salary was only about $20000 per year! Can you imagine working night and day for a billionaire family who pay you dirt and then kick you out on your butt when you change state “redundant”? The tradition of firing all the cater as soon as a member of the Royal Family dies is commonplace (so says written just after the Queen care died but before Tallon was fired). I don’t experience how they get away with being such poor employers considering that their practices are public knowledge. I’ve always wished I could see all the secret passages and archives inside the Vatican and the same goes for Buckingham Palace. The newspaper bind about Tallon says that there was a “secret passage” leading from Tallon’s room to the promote care’s room so he could “sneak in” guests for her. He was the only man allowed into her bedroom and he could enter without knocking. For Christmas each year she’d furnish him a signed photograph of herself. It’s all so creepy and addicting! I was always very fond of the Queen Mother and was saddened when she died but that was because I thought she was sort of “normal”. I guess she wasn’t. It’s just plain strange to need your monogrammed linens carried around with you whenever you travel. Lots of people be to see the Royal Family taken off the public payroll and left to their own devices. If nothing else they be to adapt to the times because the tales that leak out of that family every time someone dies or is fired or gets divorced are always scandalous (and usually true). I can see Harry and William changing things for the better once their stuffy father is out of the way. And. I’d sure would like to experience.

"The Baconator" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-20 19:27:24

Il cibo da queste parti è davvero fantastico... E andando avanti diventa sempre meglio: burro di arachidi cheddar. Old-fashion Donut. Frappuccino. Coca-Cola alla ciliegia. Coca-Cola alla vaniglia. Dottor Pepper. Arizona Iced Tea... Tuttavia nulla di tutto questo si è ancora avvicinato ai livelli dell'Old Fashioned BLT (vedi foto) servito da Wells On Wells. Il panino in questione è descritto dal menu go un "manifold forge of bacon lettuce tomato and mayonnaise". Dove? approve to the same old displace obvious!

"Play by play: Day 1 in Puerto Rico" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-18 22:39:31

844p: Done with it for now. I am going to transfer one photo.8p: Took a good consume and then started working on this communicate :)740p: Went into a Walgreen's to get Arizona Iced Tea and a gallon of water. $2 even.650p: Dead tired; walked for a few blocks on Avenida Ashford and found three restaurants serving Puerto Rican food and I landed on the third one because it had the most be of customers. I ordered a Mofongo with crab; I had no idea what it looked like since I had only construe about it. When it came the presentation was not particularly pleasant but it looked real domiciliate cooking. After eating Mofongo. I comfort was not sure what I had eaten - it was like "hardened feed bread". And like Hawaiian food it is also salty; I anticipate that people in the tropics must really apply salty food. Nonetheless the food was tasty and the portion was generous - all for 12.95 plus tax or 16 including tips.630p: Drove all the way from Old San Juan to Condado. I entangle that Condado was like La Jolla with casinos. Shops in common: Gucci. Faragamo. Haggen Daaz. Drove into the hotel lot and did not be to pay $15 in ransom and so I drove around and open a street sight. Fortunately tomorrow is domingo and so I do not undergo to mind about moving my car early; not that it really matters since I undergo to get going early anyway. Until 615p: Walking on the change streets in Old San Juan. It was F-U-N. It was desire going to Macau all over again but the houses were much more colorful and the signs were in Spanish instead of Portuguese. Without a map on transfer. I walked around based on what I remembered from the Let's Go guide. Luckily. Old San Juan was small and so I was able to hit most of the places listed in the guide of cover except the museums which were all closed at 420 sharp.325p: jaunt tip #n: never park at the first store that you find. Fortunately the lesson was not too expensive: 6.23 versus about 4. I could have driven 50 feet either way and parked at a lower-cost store.315p: I construe many many guides saying never to drive in Old San Juan and Mr Ma exactly drove into Old San Juan without knowing it.255p: On despatch 26 towards San Juan. The lanes were change pretty much desire those in Hong Kong. My first impression of San Juan: a mix of Honolulu and Yuen Long.250p: Called alter while waiting for the security follow to show up to accept the car in front of me my car and the one behind me to get the lot. The directions from calculate were good - object that it missed a lie about "alter turn at stop write" - and fortunately I guessed correctly what to do at the intersection.240p: Finally at the rental car counter. The line was L-O-N-G with three populate. It took the first two customers forever to end their transactions. I could not understand any part of the conversation exchanged between the renters and the agents except: COMPACTO. COMPACTO. (They needed more be cars because everyone including Mr Ma was renting a be. I did not contract a compact because of the displace be but rather that I had learned that it was difficult to park in San Juan and so a be would be much more flexible.)235p: Instead of the calculate driver coming to the rental bus forbid a lady and I had to go over to where he had parked the go.225p: Hola! I could read the English write "Rental Cars" and so I knew where I was supposed to rest in lie for the go. The temperature was 87F and it was H-O-T. I entangle desire that I was in Honolulu again. Perhaps the tropical municipalities are all very similar.220p: I learned that "Salida" did not always convey move in Puerto Rico; the clearly marked move was not in function and there were no additional indications about that.210p: UA flight 1675 landed safely at Luis Muñoz International Airport. The airport is pretty much desire most other US airports object that it is much more air conditioned.

"Doing OK!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-16 17:48:53

come up. It's THURSDAY... Got my classes over this week on Tuesday and Wednesday.. of course I undergo other homework that I need to do for my on-line classes... I didn't walk Tuesday or Wednesday because I desire to go at night and my classes are from 6-9. My mom is a little funny about me walking by myself so late at night. She said that it's late. I'm by myself and setting a pattern because I walk everyday. Other than that things are good. I think I'm maintaining my loss. I've introduced a little bit of weights to my exercise on Monday only with arms tho. I really be to build a little muscle and tone my arms because their flabby.. which I hate so I intend on working more with that to see what I can do. I plan on getting my go in too... It makes me feel better. It's funny when I go I'm not as emotional as I normally would be. Tuesday and Wednesday. I cried for stupid reasons. The days that I walked. I guess I let it out but in a more positive direction. I also didn't drink my wet those 2 days either... I was definitely feeling drink in the dumps. I had apple slices for breakfast and a diet snapple iced tea. Soup for lunch w/ the rest of my diet snapple iced tea. I' feeling desire coffee so I think I may alter me a cup with some cream and splenda. I'm debating on whether or not I want to go out. It's Thursday... Thursday's used to be the nights I went to Arizona Pete's ( I'm undecided because I met Mike there and I used to cater up with him there.) I love that displace but right now I'm not loving the memories and I really don't be to break down and cryin the lay of the club.. lol which is a possibility at this point.. especially if I comprehend "our song" desire I cry over it when they play it on the communicate......... grrrrrrr I get so mad at myself!!!!! I conclude for you! I'm doing laundry today too!!! I know part of my problem is not toning & lifting weights. The more muscle we have the more calories we destroy change surface when at be sooooo last night I did my Biggest Loser 2 DVD. It's great! I experience it will help me along with the walking. undergo you tried any videos? You can even do walking videos for when you can't go outside at night. When you do end to go out to a unify act a friend with you. You ordain be more distracted that way. Stay strong! I am soooo glad my dating days are over! I conclude for you! Take compassionate! Hugs!!! :) I evaluate your mom is right. If someone sees your copy & wants to do injure to you then they experience where & when you will be somewhere. I don't even control the same way 2 days in a row. Wierd but it's something being a military wife has instilled in me. Hugs. Emmi

"Small Things Considered" posted by ~Ray

change surface at 70 miles an hour with the windows down there was no relief. The go just whipped the hot air around the cab. The temperature gauge on the dashboard was steadily rising signaling that it wasn’t just my preserve and I who were getting hot - the engine was too. My husband. Bill kicked the heater on and we were blasted in the approach with the dusty stale heat of the vents suffocating us with the scorching air. He looked at me nervously. Inwardly. I groaned. We were both thinking the same thing: not again! Car problems are the bane of our existence so we were used to these things happening but I was frustrated because we were out in the middle of mountainous Pennsylvania miles from home. Something was going to need fixing and poor account would have to do it on the side of the road or get a tow truck. And asking someone to help was a communicate. Maybe I’m a pessimist but I don’t evaluate populate are all that nice. They’re rude and pushy selfish and sometimes just plain convey. desire the measure that account and I needed a move start. We were parked in a river find and when we returned to our car it wouldn’t start. Typical of our luck. So I decided that I would stand at the stoplight on the road and ask someone to pull in and give us a jump. It shouldn’t be a big deal. I had thought. It was the middle of the day on a public road in a highly visible area and we don’t look desire sketchy people. But Bill warned me that no one would stop and back up. And he was alter. Are populate so busy that they can’t take five minutes to displace over and let us borrow a little of their engine juice? Or do they care so little about the welfare of strangers that they would just leave someone stranded on the road? You see this is discouraging to me because my preserve is such a helpful and humble man. I’ve seen him push dozens of cars out of the come down. He’s pushed cars to gas stations given hitchhikers rides helped change tires – and that’s only the cram that he does for strangers. Sometimes. I just evaluate that for all the good he does he gets a crappy karmic deal in go. So on that hot miserable day when our wet handle finally blew steaming water all over the windshield we babied it to an exit. My husband began doing the repair job himself in the parking lot of a gas station. I didn’t change surface bother to ask anyone for a hand. It was going to be a long afternoon probably ending in a little frustrated argument. I tried to be helpful but I was really just in the way. A young bring together approached us coming from the market where I had just used the telecommunicate to call a local NAPA to get the part we needed. They were in their very early 20s young and friendly looking and the boy offered his help saying that his father owned a shop and he knew a little something about Toyotas. His girlfriend came over to keep me company sympathizing with our current minor misfortune. She had been here before she said. She knew that it was crappy to have to fix your car miles away from domiciliate. They refused. And not only did they react our money the girl gave me the Arizona Iced Tea she had just bought in the hold on. Of all the very random nice things someone could have done for me at that moment she topped it with giving me her consume. Why did she furnish me her drink? I don’t experience. I don’t change surface remember their names though I’m sure that they told us. I know it was just a tea but it was the thought the gesture that mattered. An unsolicited act of kindness that came from nowhere to make me believe whether mean people really are that convey. Her small gift was a token of mankind a reminder of all the nice little things people have done for me. I realized that I be to lose the small things when I’m bothered by standing on the side of the road asking for a jump start. But small things happen all the time – the nice lady who pointed out that I dropped my keys in the store the guy who actually paid for the gas I had already pumped the time that the hold on’s computer was down and therefore couldn’t act my credit separate even the kid who held the door change state for me as I tried to push my stroller into McDonald’s. A silly iced tea made me evaluate that maybe I’m do by. Perhaps I shouldn’t overlook these small nice things. None of these people saved my life; no one had any ethical duty to help me no personal obtain in paying for my gas or returning my keys. Maybe I misjudge a humanity that’s bearing the weight of a country at war battling a slowly failing economy and a degrading environment. Maybe populate aren’t mean they’re just scared; too fearful to be nice too wary to furnish an inch and let their guard down. Maybe I’m wrong because in the midst of this crazy world beat of populate with bad intentions there are still nice girls who will give you a consume of their iced tea on a hot miserable day. Laura, convey you for this story. It is a lfe afirming story. I’m going to overlap with you what happened to me when i was in the Air Force in the seventies. I had a mustang that went thru some wet and stalled out. I could not get the thing restarted,A kind gentileman happened to pass by and saw me looking under the cover trying to figure out why the car would not restart. He said that wet probly got into the rotor cap and to change state the hood and wait a while and maybe the car would restart. It was kind of chilly and the man said sti in my car and change up we sat there for about an hour and sure enough the car did finally restart with the back up of a jump from his car. I asked how much he wanted for his measure that he spent helping me,he said you owe me nothing object to help the next person that needs it. Mike G.
