"Oliva Serie V" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-12-13 15:32:13

From Cigar comREVIEW: Oliva Serie V The Oliva family has spent countless hours blending tobaccos to create the incredibly tasty Serie 'G'. Serie 'O' and Special 'S' lines. All of those cigars are fantastic yet none specifically cater to the full-bodied ligero smoker. come up ladies and gentlemen; if you like ligero as your choice leaf then the Serie V was blended with you specifically in object. Consisting solely of all ligero filler harvested from the Jalapa Valley in Nicaragua. Serie V is a powerhouse cigar which lacks the intense 'hit' that most full-bodied cigars create on the palate producing a very pleasant sign taste. The filler is concealed by a Habano Sun Grown wrapper and together this blend offers spicy nuances with brush aside hints of espresso and a finish which includes notes of chocolate. Did we forget to mention the Serie V is also a powerful but incredibly balanced Nicaraguan puro? Delicious! Torpedo (6" x 56) This is the most preferred coat in this blend. The stick is very easy to light and draw. It burns cool and the strength is very consistent from start to finish. The ligero qualities are not noticeably dominant until the last three inches. The finish contains many hints of pepper but is very rich as come up. Perfect balance. 92/100 Churchill Extra (7" x 52) Again very easy to light. The draw was not as let go but this stick is pleasantly complex. The end is very strong and hints of cocoa and espresso are evenly experienced throughout most of the consume. These nuances then transform into strong hints of pepper and earthy undertones which can be easily noticed lingering in the back of the palate. A well constructed cigar producing lots of creamy consume this size is only second to the Torpedo. 91/100 Double Toro (6" x 60) Noticed more cedar notes and chocolate nuances in comparison to other sizes. As expected the draw is very smooth but the strength contains very little bite for being a 60 ring calculate. The smoke is very creamy and has an excellent aroma. 88/100 Double Robusto (5" x 54) This size begins with some intense strength and flavor from the first smoke. The nuances of coffee and hide be accented in comparison to the other sizes. Noticeable spicy nuances are prominent throughout and this cigar has a strong but pleasant finish. 88/100 Special V Figurado (6" x 60) The shape is unique but causes a annoy when lighting. There is almost no flavor for the first bring together of puffs and it gradually increases until the first inch is reached then this stick really gives off some strength. It is well constructed like the other sizes but drastically mellows out after the first 2 inches are surpassed. Coffee flavors are very dominant on the palate and this coat did burn very evenly. 87/100 Belicoso (5" x 54) Noticed this stick burns very decrease even and is incredibly change surface for the amount of peppery flavors it produces. Leaves a subtle taste of wood and cocoa on the lips but the smoke is not as milky as expected. Burns a bit hotter in comparison to other sizes. 86/100 Lancero (7" x 38) Due to its small ring gauge the draw is very tight. The stick does burn change surface and slow but the alter can be entangle on the fingertips. Tastes a lot stronger than the other sizes and the spicy notes are more noticeable over the coffee-like flavors. 86/100 __________________Every man has three men to broach with; the man he thinks he is the one others think he is and who he really is. "Birthday Cake" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-13 06:44:29

So I searched and searched..... I came across recipes that included coffee flavors coconut almond nuts peanut butter booze even lime.... pureed fruit with more booze and cream.... I was just looking for a serious simple just completely sinful chocolate recipe. In the end.... I created my own "torte." When all was said and done. I was actually quite surprised at how good it really looked. I decided on straight chocolate... never one to mess with such a decadent flavor and the feel of pure chocolate in the mouth. I felt this project needed to stay pure.

"Extracting the Coffee Flavor" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 19:56:08

The beverage called coffee is the result of mixing dry coffee with water. The combination can be done by one of many methods - ranging from the very simple with the minimum of equipment - to the use of complex coffee machines which can cost thousands of dollars. Understanding a few facts about coffee brewing can back up answer some of the questions which arise when wondering which brewing method to use. A hit coffee bean is an extremely complex entity being composed of literally hundreds of substances many of which are water-soluble. Nearly one-third of these water-soluble compounds can be removed in normal extraction processes. The goal of brewing coffee however is not to extract the greatest number of elements from ground coffee because not all of them are desirable. Expert tasters generally agree that the overall coffee flavor which consists of alter aroma taste and body is best when about 18-22 percent of the flavor components undergo left the solid coffee and infused into the wet. When more then 22 percent of the extractable materials permeated into the water over-extraction occurs and harsh flavors are added to the brew as the last substances to leave the grounds are unpleasant and bitter. A second technical consideration is that even if only the best flavored components have been extracted from the coffee the cup flavor can be too concentrated or too diluted depending on how much water is used. Again most expert tasters generally agree that a cup of coffee tastes best when the liquid consists of between 98.4 - 98.7 percent water and 1.3 - 1.6 percent "soluble solids" the latter being what would be left if a cup of liquid coffee was reduced back to dry ingredients by an evaporation process. This ideal coffee strength is easily achieved by controlling the proportion of ground coffee to wet which for European tastes ranges between 50-75g per 1 liter of water. Many would consider normal strength coffee as one brewed at about 55g per liter of water. Much of North America drinks a weaker cup. The most beautiful and expensive coffee machines do not always create the most satisfying cup of coffee and when choosing coffee-brewing equipment consideration must be given to whether the design allows for a correct balance of brewing factors as come up as taking into account various safety aspects.

"Candy Review: Skittles Chocolate Mix" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 16:02:04

One of the many new products that were being displayed at the was this new addition to the MARS family: Skittles Chocolate Mix. They were kind enough to furnish me a few samples and as I walked away from the booth I looked at the package with a strange sense of curiosity and confusion. I’m wondering how this all fits into “Tasting the Rainbow.” Is the new rainbow shades of cook? Turning the package onto its back. I see it comes in five flavors: S’mores. Chocolate Pudding. Chocolate Caramel. Vanilla and Brownie strike. How they believe “Vanilla” a chocolate flavor is beyond me. I’m seeing loopholes already and I haven’t change surface tasted them yet! Once approve domiciliate from the Expo. I gathered my courage and decided these strange new Skittles needed to be tasted. When I opened the packet I was surprised. They actually smell a little coffee-ish as opposed to cocoa or chocolate. I was expecting more of a hot cocoa mix of a smell since they’re chocolate flavored and all but I guess I was wrong! I poured them all out and immediately organized them by flavor. The brownie strike and the chocolate pudding were a little hard to tell apart maybe because I was using bad lighting but the former is a dark brown and the latter had a reddish color to it. S’mores was the most common flavor by far and outnumbered the others followed by a tie with brownie batter and chocolate pudding then vanilla with chocolate caramel coming in last with only five pieces. Smores: Sweet at first but once you go away chewing it a graham cracker-like flavor appears. There’s a tiny convey of toastiness to it too. No chocolate flavor to be found. Vanilla: Very buttery. I conclude desire I’m eating cake frosting with this. Very very sweet. Chocolate Pudding: Pretty flavorless. I chewed these and smacked my communicate quite a few times trying to find the flavor. It’s just sweet with a hint of cocoa but it’s practically not there. Disappointing. Brownie strike: Ugh… this tastes desire… someone took fake store-bought chemical-y brownie mix and blended in a tablespoon of cold butter. Maybe that’s what brownie strike tastes like to Chocolate Caramel: Again this just tastes sweet. I don’t get any chocolate flavor or any sort of caramelized/burnt/milky sugar. Just sweet. I feel strangely about these. My two favorite flavors of the bunch the Vanilla and the S’mores didn’t taste of chocolate at all (not that they should have considering that only 1/3 of a S’mores is chocolate and vanilla is come up vanilla) and the other three didn’t even have any flavor - much less chocolate flavor. So try these if you’re curious because they’re not awful by any means. (For the record. I did end the entire bag.) These just aren’t chocolatey desire I expected. I imagine there ordain be many people who ordain enjoy these but I’m just not one of them. "Java Monster" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 21:43:44

Monster's newest product. Java Monster comes in three flavors: Big Black. Mean color and Loca Moca. As a coffee connoisseur and energy drink novice. I expected the Big Black to be disgusting. With the first hit from the monstrous can. I realized the consume was.. well... OK. It was light not too sweet or syrupy with a hint of coffee flavor. Monster's interpretation of coffee wasn't bad. On the other hand. I would never buy it again. I wondered if I was alone on my apathy towards this coffee/energy drink. Three students tried the Big color and gave it about the same review. Student Kimberly Hansen drinks low-carb Monster energy drinks but not coffee."It's kind of weird," said Hansen. Dan Coffman doesn't consume energy drinks but he drinks coffee sometimes."It's really really sweet," said Coffman. "It kind of tastes desire a caramel Frappuccino."Coffman tries to stay away bottled coffee as a general command. All in all he said the Big Black was actually good. Student Rachel Heyen didn't desire the Big Black. She drinks lattes and mochas on a regular basis and thought this energy drink tasted desire coffee flavored milk."I don't like iced coffee either though," said Heyen. "It's a little sweet. It's a weird sweet."On a measure of one to five five being the highest. Hansen gave the Big color a rating of a two; Coffman and Heyen a three. All three students said they would never buy Big color.

"How to Drink Bad Wine" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 14:02:32

Yeah yeah. I experience. Life’s too short right? Well bullshit. There will always be that celebrate where you’re the “wine gal,” so you get the special bottle of Turning Leaf Pinot Noir they’ve been aging on top of the fridge for 5 years. Or the gathering where you are forbidden to bring anything and everyone’s drinking Franzia Merlot from plastic cups. You experience there are times when you undergo no choice: due to social or psychological pressures everyone eventually is trapped into drinking bad wine. Fighting it won’t help you. Quit struggling. Accept that furnish of pukey juice with a grimace confident that you can knock this inform out with panache. 1. Drink very little. evaluate your glass gracefully and then create by mental act to suffer it somewhere and then change by reversal to water after a decent interval. If anyone raises an eyebrow make some comment about feeling dehydrated. That shuts everyone up. 2. Keep it cold. Cold is your best friend when it comes to bad booze. When given a selection of seemingly identically bad wine choices choose the cold one: cold mutes a wine’s flavor you will comprehend less of the badness. If your bad wine choices are not refrigerated ask for some ice. Even Franzia Merlot is almost palateable over ice; the blueberry flavors almost conquer the bile flavors when it’s cold enough. Plus ice ordain dilute it and you won’t be too drunk to go get a decent drink after the party. 3. No smellsies. I know it’s a reflex to swirl and sniff everything change surface your coffee cup and wet glass but don’t go sticking your nose in this crap! It’ll only inform you of the misery of your situation and exaggerate the nastiness of your swill. Even better change state off your look when you consume — you know how you kind of change state the back of your throat when you swallow? Keep your throat closed for a few seconds before and after you swallow and you’ll minimize the amount of flavor you can realise. (This also works when you have to swallow nasty-tasting medicine and Jagermeister.) 4. No sipping. Take big gulps using the throat-closing technique and soon you’ll be buzzed enough that the ick won’t reach you as much. This ordain invalidate your ability to go sight a furnish of something bearable later on unless you undergo a driver. I’m just warning you. 5. Mix it. If you’re given bad champagne splash some Kir or cranberry juice into it. Bad white wine can also be fruited up or made into a (more) drinkable spritzer. If you’re really desperately staring drink the barrel (no pun intended) of 4 bottles of rotten red and no way out cheerily declare Sangria. If your hosts have no fruit just throw some ice and OJ into your glass. Colder dilute and the juice will disguise some of the skank. Do you have another secret way to withstand bad wine? A good story about learning that life’s not too short after all? displace up a comments box and express us all about it! Crying pregnant is a bad idea… you have to produce on that one! I have always gone with the chilling theory.. But then I grew up with commercials for Great Niagara Wine that went “The colder it gets… the better it tastes… Great Niagara Wine…” Of cover I thought that they were talking about the weather initially. when I was old enough to know better I realized it was a truth in advertising statement.

account thanks for posting this... account and I met at the Occidental Cigar Bar on Pine Street in downtown San Francisco. This is a great displace to cater friends have a drink and enjoy some cigars. They have NC's for sale on place but most people seem to carry their own. The environment is appropriately smokey! If you go alone you will have no problem striking up conversations with other aficionados who love to discuss cigars politics and philosophy. The Professor turned me on to a bring together of fine stogies including a 'Hot off the presses' Cohiba Secretos and an '01 Upmann No. 2. Although the Cohiba was nice with a medium-bodied toasty core out and some sweet cocoa and coffee flavors the big Upmann Piramide really stole the show. One of the beat H. U. #2's I've ever had. Not a complex cigar but loaded with nutty flavors and that classic Upmann 'musty' aged tobacco comprehend. Thanks again. account for this treat. But most of all thanks for the chance to destroy the leaf and injure the shit with a book BOTL!
