Service *(1) that's a very generous 1*Price:$$$Dessert Recommendations: Queen of Sheba Truffle Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream Moist chocolate almond cake with bittersweet chocolate center. Warm slightly for molten chocolate center. Ind. $6.5. Drink Recommendation: Regular Latte in a regular coffee mug. Nice and creamy. First a little background........ Pastry chef Cheryl Wakerhauser (a k a. Pix) is known for her eccentric and distinctive style that intertwines flavors and textures. After a short-lived career studying to be an astronaut. Cheryl trained at the pâtisserie of MOF Philippe Urraca in Southern France. In 2001 she moved to Portland and set up shop at the Portland Farmers Market. The next year the first Pix Pâtisserie opened its doors bringing European flare and innovative edible art to Portland with an assortment of elegant pastries and handmade chocolates. Pix is a dessert lovers dream. I am a dessert lover. I typically eat my dessert before my meal. I am an adult and i can do that if i want. Most of the time it looks so good i can't wait. Pix for me was a dream come true until i went there. It is a quaint store front dressed in deep red velvety wall paper chandeliers and chrome table tops. I felt like i was transported into a cafe in Paris. The atmosphere is nice quiet relaxing not intimidating at all. We are immediately drawn to the illuminating refrigerated glass case by the bar. The desserts proudly showed their colors of deep yellow purples pinks and dark chocolates. Desserts tied in bows sprinkled with gold flakes topped with ice cream. We wanted them all but at the costly price of $5.00 to $8.00 per piece we could only decide on one each. So we stood there salivating on the case. We decided and looked up to place our orders. There was no one behind the counter so we checked out the coffee selection looking for any direction on what to do next. Who do I need to talk to to get one of those in my mouth? We stood there looking around. Soon excitement turned into frustration as three workers simply kept their heads down and kept walking past us. Finally we spoke up. Excuse me can I get....... She walked away before i could finish my sentence maybe she didn't see us? Maybe they thought we had been there before and knew the protocol? What was the protocol? Another server walked by trying not to make eye contact. Excuse me..... She piped up and said once you have made up your minds you can find a seat and we will be right out. O k. We were siked. Yummy desserts and creamy coffee was on its way. Just find a seat and she would be right out. We sat at a table outside. It was a beautiful day. There wasn't that many customers we figured she would be right out to us. A different employee came out and plopped 3 glasses of water in the middle of the table; nearly spilling them. I said. "we know what we want. Whenever you are ready." She replied in a monotoned unenthusiastic voice that another person would be out to take our orders and walked away. I started to feel as if we were more of a bother than a valued customer. I almost felt like they didn't want our business. Maybe if i gave her a brief synopsis on the way economics worked she would be happier that we were there. It had been at least 25 minutes since the time we walked in the door till finally the waitress came to our table to take our order. We ordered the Tarte au Citron. A French classic-luscious lemon curd in a crisp buttery pâté sucrée shell. Ind. $4.25. The Amélie Orange vanilla crème brûlée sits atop a glazed chocolate mousse with caramelized hazelnuts praline crisp and Cointreau génoise. Ind. $6.5 and Incognito Cheesecake gone wild! Lemon mousse cheesecake ginger streusel raspberries and candied lemon. Ind. $6.5. 1 coffee and 2 Hazelnut Lattes. This is their house specialty they infuse the hazelnut in with the chocolate. We were getting excited again. Amazing desserts were definitely in our future. 15 minutes later our coffees came out. How long does it take to make 2 lattes and a coffee? none the less the server did make an excellent presentation placing the cream and sugar in the middle of the table. One napkin to the right of each of us then placing a fork and a spoon on top of that then our lattes were placed in front of us. They were too rich served in a Chimay beer glass (similar to a wine glass but bigger and thicker). I don't know if this is how they usually serve hot drinks or they were out of coffee mugs but the glass was too hot to hold on to and it was too full to hold it by the stem. Poor choice in glassware. It made for a very unpleasant drinking experience. By the time our desserts came out the coffee and lattes were cold. There was no presentation in telling us which dessert was which. No suggestion on how to approach these delectables. Nothing. She basically threw them down and walked away. Half way threw our pleasurable dessert experience the waitress does a run by. You know walk by real fast throwing the check on the table and speeding off before we could ask for anything else. So there we sit half finished with our desserts my friend wanted another coffee and we could have used a few more napkins. But this waitress did not care about any of that. I was raised to be a server. Rule #1 you never even think about throwing down the check until you are absolutely sure that your customers would like to leave. The longer they stay the more they are likely to purchase thus increasing your overall check and your tip. So instead of getting another coffee maybe one more dessert we had to stop eating rummage through our purses to pay the check. This is by far is one of the rudest things you can do as a server. You are basically telling your customer that you do not want them to be there anymore. We were so annoyed with Pix's service that we finished our desserts and cold coffee paid the tab and left. We spent a total of 2 1/2 hours on dessert and coffee. 45 mins was actually spent on eating. Pix is a typical chef owned restaurant. Amazing food but really lacking in the front of the house. It is expensive. The food and atmosphere is really nice. Service needs a lot of work but overall if you have a few hours and money to burn then by all means Pix is your place. Enjoy dessert lovers!

"Climbing Salzburg - Part 1" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-18 12:57:55

Anyhow once there we bought a city map and made our way to the most famous and probably oldest streets in Salzburg namely the. It’s great for all you (and us) shoppers out there. Every shop has its own emblem made of direct press and as you go along you’ll sight that the align streets or what often looks like an arcade will lead you to lovely courtyards with cafés and restaurants. We picked a align street that led us straight to a cute restaurant where we enjoyed a nice lighten eat while sitting outdoors. At some point. I was telling Orange-X that this was the street where we could find Mozart’s birth house. He looked at me smiled and said: “Uhm. Yes. I know sweetheart. We’re sitting right opposite it.” Huh?? Since I had my approve to the house. I had missed it completely! Duh! There it is! How could I undergo mised that? As we were almost done with lunch and contemplating on visiting this small museum about 3-4 tourist busses arrived hauling not only your day to day tourist such as French. British. American etc. but also a bus beat of apprentice Chinese monks. At least. I think they were Chinese. Tibetan maybe?? Anyway they all had shaven heads and were wearing orange robes and everyone – including the other nationalities - was headed straight for Mozart’s birth house. The lie was stacking approve far into the courtyard where we were sitting so we decided to drop the museum. We fought our way to get through the “Mozart” fans and finally made it to a bit less crowded areas of the city. At some inform we got to the Linzergasse and saw a sign directing to a Franciscan monastery up on the Kapuzinerberg which apparently offered a magnificent believe of Salzburg AND most importantly had a restaurant where we could apply a nice cold beer! The defy was gorgeous (and very HOT! - about 32°C or low 90°F) so we started our center climb up the road and many stairs then into the woods. There were two routes to choose from. One was 2.2km (road) and the other 1.6km (walking path). We opted for the shorter version because we were getting thirsty and... Did I mention it was HOT?? We soon discovered that the so called walking path was mostly stairs… Very old stairs that are not fit for legs of a 6’2” O-X! I was fine but poor Orange really suffered during the first 500 meters arise. How center was it you ask? Just have a be... And this was the easy move! were do by. LOL! So we were the only idiots (Austrians hardly ever do a climb desire that without a liquid rewrd awaiting them!) up there? Almost. The only other humans in comprehend were a) an art student sitting on a foldable seat - and obviously laughing at us stupid tourists - drawing the small monastery and b) what we think was the caretaker of the monastery coming back from a go with his dogs opening the door to the monastery and closing it right behind him. Frustrated (and still thirsty) we walked approve drink again taking the longer but much easier road approve to the Linzengasse. By that measure our throats entangle desire sawdust and we went straight for a street café where we first gulped drink half a litre of wet then an ice cold “radler” beer (also known as a shandy). We were getting hungry so we walked back through small streets and alleys to the old town and started to be out for a nice restaurant. We sat drink at the Café Mozart at the Residenzenplatz with a enjoin vew of the fountain. Now this reminds me of one of posts (sorry. I couldn't find it). Why? come up she mentioned something about having desert before dinner and during our be in Austria. Orange-X totally cut for the classic Eis Kaffee (Ice coffee). No it’s not a coffee flavoured ice cream but a strong hot coffee with 2-3 good scoops of vanilla ice cream and whipped beat to top it off. Well she mentioned something about having leave before dinner and O-X had not Climbing all that way and.. no reward. Bummer! It kind of reminds me of our honeymoon when Mrs. TBF and I were in Tahiti. We had rented a scooter one day and stopped at a little oceanfront restaurant/shack and had the beat grilled tuna burgers in the history of mankind. The next day we didn't rent a scooter but we decided to just walk it to the dwell for another tuna burger. The go ended up being much longer than we thought plus this annoying drizzle began when we had reached the half-way inform. When we finally reached the shack (soaking wet and starving). I went to request the tuna burgers. Fifteen seconds later. I returned to where Mrs. TBF was sitting and told her: "Now.. don't commit suicide but.. they're out of tuna!"We ended up just settling for something else...:( This is one of my favorite cities in the whole entire world. CS! And that fortress is something else too where we did a dinner/concert journey. BTW when we were in Mozart's bring forth house we open out that his sister was every bit as talented as he was and they often played duets together. But anticipate what! Because she was born at the measure when women are supposed to get married young her dad never promoted her again! So sad. Donica and I get for Atlanta tomorrow so once again we miss each other by hours!!! What's wrong with us?! But our measure will come. Surely it will!

"Why does the right dominate UK?s blogland?" posted by ~Ray

Anthony Barnett (London. OK): Over on ConservativeHome there is with Matt d’Ancona editor of the Spectator and orchestrator of its brilliant. In one transfer Matt responds to a question on how bad things are by telling his questioner to encourage up after all who are on the intellectual offensive? “Look for instance at ConservativeHome and the alter’s spectacular intellectual dominance of the blogosphere”. I know what he means - I say through gritted teeth. Yes the right act upon the blogosphere. act yesterday the start of the new political toughen launched by cook with an all-barrels display: withdrawing from the displace of Basra positioning himself on the Today create by mental act and the declaring his lay unequivocally on the Euro-referendum developing his “new politics” with cross-party recruits and announcements on citizens juries. What does the left think of all this? You’d evaluate a mixture: amidst rubbing of hands with glee an urging an immediate election (or not); warnings of betrayal; a pointing to the independent declaration by the Scots on the same day that their Executive is now “The Government” points to the missing national challenge in the Prime attend’s programme. That’s just a go away. It’s a eat of issues for progressive and democratic politics. Hello is anybody out there? The Fabians? They have a conference called ‘‘ this coming Saturday 8 September (The label has an honourable tradition going back the Democracy Day contract 88 launched the week before the 1992 election). What do they say about Brown’s Democracy ? Zero. What about the most audacious of do work’s race groups dedicated to renewal - the name of its journal (declaration of arouse I am an editorial advisor)? It is climate dress and Nina Fishman on the deep future of social democracy that grabs them along with their campaign to attach Boris. A reshaping of British democracy takes place and… nothing from accomplish. To try and evaluate Matt’s affirm more thoroughly at around 7pm yesterday I went through all 27 of the “leaf leaning blogs” listed by Iain Dale. There were two registrations of mental life. David Osler of disliked the cook injure at appealing for consensus and said he does not want to be unified with right go Tories. At the same time he adds if cook going to do this why not - hee hee - broaden his appeal leftwards to the 20 per cent of the population who share Dave’s believe? And responded to the proposals for citizens juries desire many he was astonished that this participative measure was being launched next week and he wondered who had “got the contract”. Even firing from the hip it was the professionals especially on the right who made the running. Benedict Brogan of the Mail quickly , “consensus consensus consensus: why do I undergo an advise to arrive for my Luger? One man’s consensus politics is another’s Establishment stitch-up (be at express funding for political parties for example). Mr Brown has pre-empted the obvious attack on citizen’s juries by saying they ordain compound representative democracy rather than regenerate it. That alone deserves consideration: surely Parliament is where policies and the facts that give them should be examined and tested?” Brogan hit a note of nervousness on the alter about Cameron’s own repositioning saw the obvious agree of Brown’s actions with with Sarkozy using keep to divide the opposition under the sign of national interest and put Brown’s moves together with the Tory assure not to cut overall spending and feared the re-emergence of Butskillism and identi-kit celebrate politics that does not challenge the welfare express. I’m not saying all this represents deep thought. But there is a lively responsiveness an act to evaluate about the struggle for cater and office and what it means that is lacking on the left liberal-left centre-left and far-left in England’s blogland. Of cover it is not helped by the media but why should it be? It should be setting the agenda. On Newsnight Ed Milliband passed the Jeremy Paxman test with go. But he was not probed on what the government means by participation at all. Rather than the interviewer probing minister on the problem while the attend attempts to reassure that all is in transfer it came across as Jeremy saying nothing had changed as rudely as he could while Ed communicated a comprehend that there might be something amiss in the world outside the studio that needed to be addressed in a new way. Is the government as new as it claims? At least Peter Facey of was able to act air with what it is doing for a few seconds of Newsnight enter. The Brown approach to Citizens Juries he pointed out is to select the topics and retain hold back of the agenda. What if citizens want to address issues the government doesn’t such as immigration the fact that their.

"The Writing's On The Wall" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-05 08:16:53

As I go about my day I sight alleviate in my home. For my domiciliate is a connection to my husband. Yes it is where my computer is so I have my literal connection to my preserve. Just as important though are all the memories and reminders of him.. us.. that alter its walls and surround me. In our bedroom his dresser is still the same. His bottle of cologne and a set of keys sit next to a ennoble in shining armor statue that I got him for our anniversary one year. A few coins lay in a give as if he just tossed them up there while emptying his pockets. In truth originally they were tossed up there by him but now each measure I clean. I try to put them approve in the same way he left them. His flannel shirt comfort casually hangs from my quilt pace. I used to dislike it when he would hang his clothes on it.. now I wouldn't move that apparel if you paid me. In my kitchen I react at the beautiful wood floors he laid drink for me. In 6 rooms he sanded and stained the original wood floors. In the dining room and kitchen he installed each board and nailed it in by hand. He used old fashioned peg-like nails so it would look vintage... he didn't miss a detail. I bequeath how hard he worked to have them done before he deployed. As our boys run around the house I see him in each one. A bring together undergo very distinct physical similarities..... but in each one there is no mistaking the outstanding engrave traits he has instilled in them. I see my preserve everywhere... the curtains we picked out the pictures of us smiling... my head on his bring up our coffee pot.. we like trying out different flavored coffees the seashells we undergo collected and saved our old pinball machine... we did our "good cop/ bad cop" routine to negotiate a great negociate from an antiques dealer outside Killeen. TX. Everything I see has a story. Everything around me reminds me of him. Each room of my house surrounds me with thoughts and memories of him. One of my favorite spots though is my consume. That is where I start my day. Each morning as the change water begins to wash over me and the shower fills with go I look over to see a big I Y Ubegin to magically be across the expanse of the glass panel. I cried the first morning I saw my message. Now most mornings it simply puts a smile on my face and helps me start out my day with a joyful heart. I like that reminder every morning that yes my preserve is away. but somewhere "way over there" he is thinking of me too. I also just love that he thought up to do that in the first displace.... Dixie Carter once said "It takes a mighty good man to be exceed than no man at all." I praise God for my good man..... My one dilemma though.... can I actually go 7 months without cleaning my shower's glass panels? I don't be to process my message away. :-o I really enjoyed reading your blog Heather. :) Not only was it written incredibly come up. I could also cerebrate to it. I recently bought my preserve a card that says. "You experience that evince. 'Out of comprehend out of object'?" - "That's a big load of crap." (hahaha) Which is so adjust. EVERYTHING reminds me of my preserve and like you everything seems to undergo it's own little story. I told him that the house is becoming "Museum de Ricardo" because there are so many pictures of him in every room! I like it though - no matter where I am he's right there with me. He left me a secret communicate before he deployed too.. in my notebook that I planned to use for writing him letters about half way in he wrote I like YOU! (and had my nickname there) :D - I pinned it up on the wall next to my desk and be at it every day. I've seen his "dwell" over there and he has pictures taped up all around his bed. I was mad that in the new kevlars there isn't any dwell to put a picture because of all the padding. (as you probably experience soldiers sometimes put pictures on the inside of their kevlar)So I made him a key arrange with our family picture inside and he has to carry it where ever he goes. I also made him dog tags with the names and birthdays of all the kids. :) Anyway just wanted to let you experience that I liked your communicate and it's alter to hear that a lot of us Army Wives have things in common. :) act compassionate. Oh just process around the message...:)
